Venous Closure

Venous Closure (VNUS) is a new technique developed in the late 90's that addresses venous reflux in a relatively non-invasive method. Instead of an open procedure to "strip" the saphenous vein, an intravenous catheter is inserted just below the knee in to the diseased saphenous vein. The vein is then "closed" using a radio-frequency probe. The procedure generally takes less than an hour and the patient is allowed to walk the same day of surgery. Pain and disability, including time off work are dramatically reduced by this procedure in comparison to traditional stripping methods. Long-term results are equal to stripping.
